We offer a full suite of environmental contracting services, including environmental construction, such a landfills and related facilities, earthen dam raises, slope and waterway restoration etc. remediation, hazardous materials abatement, emergency response and training.

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Supervisor or Foreman is responsible for supervising all on-site activities and field operations staff, including those of sub-contractors.  May be required to supervise multiple sites simultaneously.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Responsibilities may include any of the following, based on the project needs:
  • Effectively supervise site staff within a union or non-unionized environment to ensure completion of project, on schedule and on budget
  • Supervise/coordinate sub-contactors
  • Communicate with Project Manager and Superintendent as to job progress and scope changes/problems.
  • Work cross functionally by utilizing internal business partners resources, systems, processes and operations
  • Develop safe and effective work plans and conveys them to crews in a clear fashion
  • Receive direction from Superintendent and Project Manager
  • Accountable for project deliverables and adherence to operations process and procedures
  • Read, understand and follows the Corporate Health and Safety Program, Policy and Procedures. Ensures health and safety is considered in the performance of all activities on the job and that they comply with client H&S requirements
  • Hold effective job kick off meetings, daily tailgate meetings and weekly safety meetings
  • Complete all Client specific related initiatives, i.e. Behavioural Based Safety (BBS), Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
  • Responsible for daily tracking and reporting of costs and ensuring cost effectiveness of procedures on a job site is such that actual costs are at or below planned costs in the Control Estimate
  • Coordinate manpower and equipment to minimize downtime
  • Establish rates in conjunction with Project Manager and Superintendent to source competitive bids and materials
  • Management of project and operational cost control logs
  • Provide prompt daily recording of site activities to Project Administrator, Project Manager and/or Superintendent so earned values can be forwarded to client
  • Cooperate with client on site visits and inspections
  • Act as a liaison identifying issues, scope conflicts and project changes
  • Assign equipment, personnel, and sub-contractor resources to satisfy project requirements and in accordance with union agreements (if applicable)
  • Plan future activities on jobsite
  • Ensure safety is #1 priority on site
  • Other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education             

  • Grade 12 or equivalent preferred
  • Company and client mandated safety training
  • Post-secondary education in related field is an asset


Occupational Certification

  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Must hold all certificates, clearances and passes for client access requirements. As per QMLP training matrix

 

Experience

  • Supervisory experience in remediation or civil construction
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience as a general labourer or Heavy Equipment Operator is an asset

 

Knowledge

  • Applicable safety and employment regulations, policies, procedures
  • Construction industry experience, in civil earthworks/groundworks, landscaping and/or environmental remediation projects
  • Computer literate
  • Capable of managing required paperwork
  • Knowledge of specifications and blueprints
  • Good understanding of codes, laws and other requirements
  • Knowledge of quality standards

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Work requires travel to work sites out of town.  Hours can be long, between 10 – 12 hours per day based on project and client requirements. Specialized PPE (respirators, etc) may be required.
