Thunder Bay facility offers growth potential for QM Environmental within Canada’s Eastern and Western transportation intersection

Mississauga, Ontario (May 31, 2019) – QM Environmental, a leading Canadian environmental and industrial services company, today announced the scheduled opening of a new office in Thunder Bay, Ontario on May 31, 2019. The facility will support its Emergency Management and Environmental Response, and Remediation business lines, and will serve the needs of its existing clients and projects in the Northwestern Ontario region.

QM provides Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP) services to a large number of clients that move dangerous goods and non-dangerous goods on rail and road from coast-to-coast. “Thunder Bay is a significant transportation hub for transcontinental shipments, served by both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railway, and the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway. The location is important to QM’s 24/7 national emergency response network. We are excited with the opportunity to serve our clients directly in the north.” said Jacques Benoit, Senior Vice President and Division Head – Emergency Management and Environmental Response Services.

“We have two (2) large-scale multi-year Remediation projects that operate from Thunder Bay. Having our own office allows us access to local resources and timely support for our project needs.” said Stephen Pinto, Senior Vice President and Division Head – Remediation.

QM will be working closely with a local company, the LTL Group’s Environmental division, to support its operations. The office will be co-located with LTL at 227 Highway 527, Shuniah, Ontario.

LTL is a home-grown company in the north with core businesses in contracting, directional drilling and environmental services. “Both QM and LTL have been in the environmental contracting industry for over 35 years. Working alongside an established environmental contractor compliments our business expansion strategy in the north.” said Justin Sharp, Chief Executive Officer of QM Environmental. Working in collaboration with LTL serves as a natural progression in our business objectives. LTL specializes in remediation, demolition, emergency response and other lines of business for northwest Ontario.

Vince Ottertail, Emergency Response Team Leader, will be moving with his family to Thunder Bay to manage the local operations at this new facility. Vince is originally from the region and the Lac La Croix First Nation. He is a 2013 graduate of the Specialized Independent Competencies (SIC) Program: an Aboriginal training and capacity building initiative that QM delivered over four years, in partnership with the Niagara Peninsula Area Aboriginal Management Board (NPAAMB). Following the program, Vince was hired as a casual ER Responder and has since progressed through roles of increased scope and responsibility, and is now poised to manage our Thunder Bay ER Operations.
