We have an exciting IMMEDIATE opportunity to join our Environmental Response team in Delta, BC & Hamilton, ON

POSITION SUMMARY

An ER Technician within the Emergency Response division is responsible for the following duties:

  • Participating in an on-call schedule to ensure 24/7/365 response capability for our clients.
  • Responding to scheduled and emergency work as required, which may include long driving/working hours and overnight hotel stays on short notice.
  • Representing QM in a competent and professional manner at all times
  • Facilitates and ensures that the best course of action is executed while respecting worker/public safety, environment, and property as well as the best interests of QM clientele
  • Keep response equipment and vehicles in a ready-state including but not limited to monthly inspections, testing and maintenance.
  • Maintain records of work, training and response actions in various formats using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) as well as other digital platforms in use by QM.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include the following:

Supports the Emergency Response Team with Hazardous Materials response. Assists with efficient and timely responses 24 hours a day in a professional and safe manner representing and reflecting the company.

  • Utilize all Health and Safety initiatives on emergency and non-emergency projects
  • Follows HSE compliance with applicable Federal, Provincial Acts, Codes and Regulations
  • Complete all paperwork and reports required for operational tasks
  • Perform equipment checks and testing on a scheduled basis
  • Perform maintenance on QMLP vehicles and mechanical equipment as requested
  • Provides basic housekeeping of our building and our work areas
  • Attends scheduled training as assigned by Operations Supervisors.
  • Completes required documentation in the management of waste and transportation of waste as per the Provincial and Federal regulations
  • Responsibilities as otherwise assigned by Operational/Regional Management

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KEY COMPETENCIES

Education:

  • High School equivalency is preferred
  • College or University Diploma or Degree in a related field an asset

Occupational Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license is mandatory
  • OFA-1 is an asset
  • NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness or better an asset
  • NFPA 1006 Confined Space Entry/ Rescue certification an asset
  • NFPA 1001 Level 1 & 2 is an asset.
  • Tank car/ Tank truck Specialist is an asset
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) is an asset
  • Forklift/Equipment Operator certification/experience is an asset

Experience:

  • Hazardous Materials Response experience preferred (1 years or greater)
  • Previous experience in chemical handling, transferring, and waste management, etc. asset
  • Previous experience with the assessment of industrial services and a keen understanding of working at heights, confined space, rescue etc. asset
  • Comprehensive heavy construction experience and Industrial experience an asset
  • Rope Rescue Technician experience is an asset
  • Volunteer Firefighting experience is an asset
  • Construction/framing/carpentry experience is an asset

Knowledge:

  • Must be able to communicate well with others, in both verbal and written formats, with respect and professional maturity.
  • Have an understanding and respect of Federal and Provincial regulations and other regulatory authorities
  • Excellent computer skills, with a focus on Word , PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
  • Have an awareness of your own deficiencies/ and areas lacking in knowledge and be willing to learn and grow as part of a regional, provincial and national team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Both office and outdoor activities related to typical diverse environments and varied locations, ability to work in inclement weather conditions as required and to travel regularly. Required to work on call.  May be required to drive long distances.
