We are looking for a Environmental, Health & Safety Regional Manager to join our team in Mississauga, ON.

POSITION SUMMARY:

An Environmental, Health & Safety Regional Manager within the Environmental, Health & Safety division is responsible for the following duties:

  • Assist the Head of Environment, Health & Safety to lead the EHS management system at the national level, across each of the organization’s divisions: Emergency Response, Demolition, Hazmat, Remediation
  • Work cooperatively with EHS team members and companywide stakeholders at all levels to promote EHS and to create a continuous improvement and pro-active EHS management cycle
  • Ensure health and safety is considered in the performance of all activities; adapting to various work environments and business activity
  • Assist the Head of EHS to coordinate and implement all aspects of the QM Environmental EHS program nationally in accordance with the National EHS Program requirements, provincial and other regulatory agencies
  • Act as liaison between field, management, the Head of EHS, Senior management Team and legislative authorities as required
  • Act as the backup/delegate to the Head of EHS in their absence

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent EHS team as a subject matter expert on project bid teams as required
  • Ensure EHS compliance with applicable Federal, Provincial Acts, Codes and Regulations
  • Pro-actively identify, develop, and implement modern EHS program protocols, Safe Work Procedures etc.
  • Oversee the compilation, updating and distribution of health and safety related documentation as required regionally and specific to various business lines
  • Assist in developing and delivering required training programs at all levels
  • Maintain and coordinate health and safety training needs at all levels nationally
  • Support, mentor, and coach team of 9 EHS coordinators
  • Maintain and monitor all EHS records nationally
  • Maintain Certificate of Recognition (COR) in all applicable regions
  • Manage the daily health and safety activities related to administration and field work
  • Network with all internal and external stakeholders to promote the QM Environmental health and safety culture
  • Pro-actively share EHS information to enhance and maintain safety awareness
  • Coordinate/participate in various health and safety meetings, Corporate EHS meetings, conferences, and other activities
  • Maintain various statistical data (monthly incident metrics, training, etc.); complete and distribute reports in a timely manner
  • Actively lead and incident and injury investigation, reporting and follow-up
  • Coordinate Early and Safe Return to Work, WCB / WSIB case management in cooperation with EHS Coordinators and the company’s Claims Consultant
  • Conduct internal health & safety audits and inspections as per internal protocol and established schedules
  • Maintain third party prequalification systems
  • Work collaboratively with all QM Environmental business divisions
  • Participate and liaise in external audits as required (WCB/WSIB, COR, government agencies, etc.)
  • Ensure project start-up EHS activities are completed
  • Present health and safety concerns to management and operations and assist in the problem-solving process
  • Assist with rollout and maintenance of electronic safety management system (Site Docs, Site Docs Analytics)
  • Other activities or responsibilities as assigned by the Head of EHS.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Graduate from both a secondary and a post-secondary institution
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline preferred or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience

Occupational Certification:

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation and/or related i.e., Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or the Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or National Construction Safety Officer (NCCSO) would be considered an important asset
  • Valid driver’s license a must & clean transcript

Experience:

  • Experience in a supervisor role (minimum 2 years)
  • Comprehensive heavy construction experience, previous experience in heavy equipment activity related to construction or oil and gas activity preferred
  • Previous experience in WCB/WSIB applications, ESRTW program implementation
  • Experience implementing electronic safety management systems considered an asset

Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of HSE related legislation, provincial, federal and others as applicable
  • In-depth knowledge of various training applications such as Behavioral Based Safety, internal and external audit protocol, thorough incident investigation and corrective action methodologies.

Abilities:

  • Work collaboratively with all field supervisors and managers to ensure field personnel have the necessary knowledge and competencies to complete assigned tasks in a safe manner
  • Work in unionized and non-unionized work environments
  • Must be an adept communicator, willing to share experience and knowledge, capable of mentoring and leading junior team members using a collaborative and flexible approach
  • Excellent understanding of Federal and Provincial regulations and other regulatory authorities

  • Excellent group presentation skills (i.e., orientation training, group instruction and EHS seminars)

  • Strong written and communication skills, fluent in English a must, other language abilities desirable
