emergency first aid 

SCOPE OF TRAINING

This course is for learners who want, or require, a general knowledge of first aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. This course is usually paired with CPR-B with AED or CPR-C with AED. This course uses a combination of theory, practical situations, and a written exam.

** Certification is valid for three (3) years. Re-certification for Emergency First Aid is the same 6-8 hour course. **

HOURS OF TRAINING

Course duration is six (6) to eight (8) hours and includes both theory and practical requirements.

LEARNER COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the goals of first aid and legal implications of providing first aid treatment

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of universal precautions, including barrier devices, hand washing, and use of gloves

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the ABC priorities

  • Demonstrate primary assessment of a victim

  • Demonstrate one-rescuer adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin and how to use an AED

  • Simulate the treatment of: conscious adult, child or infant with an obstructed airway. Complications: a pregnant woman and person who is obese

  • Simulate the treatment of an unconscious adult, child or infant with an obstructed airway

  • Demonstrate the effective direction of bystanders to activate EMS

  • Demonstrate the recognition and care of a victim suffering from respiratory emergencies

  • Demonstrate the recognition and care of a victim suffering from circulatory emergencies

  • Demonstrate the recognition and care of a victim suffering from abdominal, burn and facial injuries
  • Demonstrate the recognition and care of an unconscious victim
