POSITION SUMMARY

The Regional Manager will be responsible for leading and managing the business in one or more service centers to achieve business goals and maximize profitability. Regional Manager duties also include guiding subordinate management and supervisory staff within the region, setting performance objectives, evaluating and optimizing operational performance, ensuring regulatory and company standard compliance, and preparing and delivering operational reports and communications to and from the Corporate level.  

It is expected that this role will spend 80% or more of available resources working in the Business, driving business volume and profitability, and up to 20% of resources working on the business, developing or refining processes or procedures as defined by the Director, to increase effectiveness and promote growth.

Accountabilities

Health and Safety

  • Responsible to ensure all personnel follow the Corporate Health and Safety Program, all Policies and Procedures are followed and to support ongoing assessments for effectiveness as it relates to operational activities.
  • Supports and participates in health and safety initiatives, investigations, and continuous improvement to ensure corporate goals and targets are met.
  • Ensures health and safety is considered in the performance of all activities.
  • Ensure HSE compliance with applicable Federal, Provincial Acts, Codes and Regulations

Leadership

  • Achieving business goals and revenue targets.
  • Developing and implementing regional business plans in alignment with Division and Corporate level goals and objectives.
  • Managing internal and external stakeholder relations and negotiating contracts.
  • Preparing and delivering communications to and from the Corporate level and maintaining a high level of engagement with staff.  
  • Overseeing daily operations, managing budgets, and setting performance objectives.
  • Managing internal and external stakeholder relations and negotiating contracts.
  • Ensuring products and services comply with regulatory and quality standards.
  • Ensuring company standards and procedures are followed.
  • Dealing with escalated customer issues, incident reports, and legal actions.
  • Organizes and promotes professional developmental opportunities for employees and training.

Financial Management

  • Achieve financial targets relating to revenue and profitability.
  • Working with Finance partners to prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual analyses of published P&L statements and defend budget and forecast variances.
  • Managing regional accounts receivables and maintaining positive cash flow.
  • Planning, evaluating, and optimizing operations to be efficient and cost-effective. This may include and is not limited to strategic use of vendors and suppliers, liaison with peers to drive national discounts, and working with Company procurement staff to minimize operational costs.  
  • Identifying and pursuing capital considerations to maintain operational continuity and drive growth.

Client Relations

  • Implementing and overseeing regional sales and growth initiatives in alignment with Divisional goals
  • Supports the management of new and existing clients, to maintain, improve, and build new relationships.
  • Overseeing regional bids, quotes and tenders.
  • Supports resolution of customer concerns quickly and efficiently.

Staff Development

  • Working with Human Resources partners to promote Recruitment and maintain optimal staffing levels.
  • Training and supporting Operations Managers
  • Conducting regular performance evaluations on all subordinate staff.
  • Implementing and maintaining a regional succession plan for critical positions.
  • Development of individual growth plans for high performing and high potential employees.
  • Minimizing attrition and ensuring the capacity and continuity of the Business.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education         

  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline (science, environmental engineering, or emergency management) or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Previous experience in Management or supervisory positions in an industrial setting
  • Financial experience or exposure relating to cost analyses, budgeting and interpretation of profit and loss statements.  
  • Experience in resource allocation and/or logistics management responsibilities and project estimating.
  • Experience in evaluating operational procedures with respect to various technical, environmental, budget, regulatory, and financial constraints.
  • An understanding of Canadian environmental legislation, standards, and guidelines related to emergency response and remediation will be considered an asset
  • Experience in Facilities management will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in Waste Management will be considered an asset
  • Experience in the field of Hazardous Materials event mitigation and remedial measures will be considered an asset
  • Experience working with Emergency Response Assistance Plans will be considered an asset

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HOURS OF SERVICE

This role will function primarily in an office setting however, this position may be required to support major projects or events in Canada either via telephone or in person. This position will not be included in the regional operations on call roster, however as a management role it is expected that the individual will be materially available to personally provide a safe and effective level of supervision and instruction to all subordinate positions for all work being performed, or to adequately supply an equivalent level of supervision and instruction through delegation for periods of unavailability.
